Inspiration: Whitespace, 10 examples
Saturday, December 26th, 2009If you were to ask me what I think is the most important element of web design, I would probably reply; Whitespace. Whitespace is the secret between a good web site and a great one; it is also a key component in allowing a graphically un-intensive web site to still be aesthetically beautiful.
First and foremost a web site must function well and be easy to read and understand. But it musn’t be boring to look at. Graphics have been, and always will be used to enhance a web sites look and feel, but we have to be careful not to ovecrowd a page, ruining it’s readability and functionality. That’s where effective use of Whitespace comes in.
What is whitespace? Essentially it is just empty space; contrary to it’s name, it doesn’t have to be white 
I’m not going to go into the mechanics of exactly how the benefits work but whitespace simply makes a page easy on the eye and easy to read/understand. It allows us to use a GUI without harming (in fact sometimes enhancing) funtionality. And that, of course is the most desired result in web site design.

Tuesday, November 30th, 1999We love our web templates, especially free ones. And whilst there are a plethora of poorly designed ones out there we occasionally stumble across gems. This is a list of 11 of our favorite free templates.
Not only are they beautifully designed but they are also very comprehensive, many of them offering layout variations and different colour schemes. And they’re free!
The only drawback we can possibly see with these excellently designed templates is their popularity. Sounds weird, but I’m sure you can imagine hundreds of web sites out there using these beauties, so exclusivity is not a feature. But you really cant complain. As long as you don’t mind stumbling across somebody else web site which looks identical to your own, it’s all good! Fantastic work all round.
